I have a hexagonal tank 27.43 gallons (L18inch,H22, D16) At the moment i have community fish Guppies, Mollies, Platties and 2 Clown roaches i have kept these for a few years now.

I am thinking of starting to keep some Dwarf Chichild's, I have a few questions.

Do people think my tank is big enough?
What Dwarf do you think i should keep?
I don't really want to get rid of all my fish at the moment, so are some Chichild's ok with community fish?
Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Paul

blue rams will be fine with the community fish, kribs will also be ok, but will become quite aggressive when breeding. You could try keyhole cichlids they are very very peaceful and they have a really nice shape about them.

you could keep blue rams in there nice colourful fish and can keep in community tanks thought water conditions usually have to be spot on but there a good starter dwarf cichlid. Apistogramma nijsseni are one of my faves along with triple reds but you dont see many about and are quite expensive but something to look to go onto keeping

Thanks very much for the advice Very Happy

Think i will try some Blue ram to start, then eventually just keep Cichlids.

How many Cichilds would be ok for my size tank, apox 28 gallons

HI

The blue rams will be fine and also double red cichlid (Apistogamma cacatuoides double reds).
key holes are ok and kribs are too but in your size tank with it being tall then long i would only put one pair of cichlids in any more and you will have a war for space because cichlid are capable of defending it own territory even against much larger fish Surprised

Yes i have bought a Male and Female Double red Dwarf Chicilds. Both have settled in very well, mixing with my guppies, mollys, patties and feeding good. Both have made a bog wood cave home.

I'm very new to Chichild's so don't know how old need to be before start breeding. I hoping these two do.

I will try and get some photos sorted soon.

If anyone has advise on Dwarf Chichilds i will be pleased to hear.
